Ice Mountain Arena Promotes Learn-to-Skate
Programs at Local Parks and Recreation Centers

Burton, MI -- Local Parks and Recreation Centers in Genesee County
and the Ice Mountain Arena have teamed up to implement
two Learn-to-Skate Programs. Beginning this Spring, both Grand Blanc
Parks & Recreation and Davison Community Enrichment and Recreation (DCER)
will be offering students the exposure to a new sport while providing a safe
introduction for those who might not have participated in ice skating.

The 6-week "After School" Learn-to-Skate (LTS) Program is for students ages 5 and
up. Membership includes a 50 minute LTS focusing on
developing a strong
ice skating foundation while preparing the skater for advancement in either
Ice Mountain's figure skating or hockey program. Classes consist of 25 minute
group instruction and 25 minute practice time.

The 6-week Mom & Tot Skate (MTS) is open to children ages 3-5. Membership includes
a 50 minute skating party consisting of "on-ice" activities to help preschoolers not
only become comfortable on the ice, but also provide a lot of fun and enjoyment.
Parents are welcome to join in on the fun too!The goals of the program is to introduce a sport, unique to the community, to students
as well as developing life-long positive attitudes toward health and fitness through ice
skating.  "Grand Blanc Parks & Recreation is excited to be partnering with Ice Mountain
for the new Learn-to-Skate Programs," stated Jamie Weasel, Assistant Director.  "We
feel this type of program will be a real success and encourage participants to register promptly."
To register for classes through Grand Blanc Parks & Recreation, please contact 810-694-0101.

"This is our first opportunity to offer ice skating," stated Shawn Barrett, DCER Program
Supervisor."  "We are fortunate to have partnerships with businesses that value the importance
of offering enrichment and recreation programs to our community members."  Barrett does not
have just one specific vision for Davison area kids in terms of ice skating, but shared the following
story.

"I remember as a kid going skating with my family on Sunday afternoons.  It was a time I
looked forward to.  I made wonderful friends skating and it was a great physical outing that we
did together.  This program offers children the opportunity to try something that they may not
had the opportunity to experience before."   For Davison community school children, contact
the DCER directly at 810-591-0177 to learn more about registering for a learn-to-skate program.

With the continued support from such parks and recreation centers and the community,
the Ice Mountain skating team is hopeful to bring the Learn-to-Skate concept to realty
throughout the Flint and Lapeer communities someday.
